Theologians At Lunch

Teacher: with Justine Humphreys

When I think of the season of advent, I think of waiting. We’re waiting for the celebration of the historical coming of Jesus at Christmas. And we’re waiting as Advent points us towards the time when Christ will come again.

I don’t find waiting easy. It’s especially difficult when there are no guarantees that our waiting will ever end in this lifetime. Desires we long for, prayers we’ve been praying, and news we’re waiting to hear can tempt us to be impatient, discouraged, to worry, and even to wonder if God cares.

Jesus was a great teacher in seasons of waiting. He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Ever. He is Emmanuel, God with us. That’s a promise that will sustain us while we wait for answers to prayer, but even more, as we wait for his triumphant return!
