Cate Vose on the call to live an original life

The start of a New Year is a good time to reflect on the call to live an original life. When we decide that what we buy, what we wear, what we eat, what we drive or what tech we use will in some small way, define us, we have already begun to let go of the dream to live into our own uniqueness. The marketing of products has now become aspirational; the narrative around a certain new car becomes linked, for example to the aspiration to dream. This is powerful stuff, and has the capacity to shape our minds, responses and our choices. But you and I know, because our deepest wisdom reminds us; that our call to live an original life is not about what we can buy, its about who we are becoming, and how we call out the flourishing of others around us. Its our connection to God, and the rest of creation which is where the really rich stuff is. In those moments where we find ourselves really connected to others; those potent moments, they are what make our lives original. The rest is window dressing. We are all called to something, what are you called to?
